SUMMER

Summers are warm to hot (25-35 degrees) with a very occasional storm or shower. Early morning can still be quite mild. The summer months of July and August are the most popular times to visit the Dordogne. Across the Dordogne region restaurants and attractions are all open and active. Special events take place during these months such as fairs and evening markets.

SPRING-AUTUMN

Spring and autumn is milder (22-28 degrees) and with a greater chance of rain. Heavy rain can arrive in late Spring. May, June and September are wonderful to visit the region. The weather is nearly always warm and quite often as hot as summer. The roads are less busy and the attractions easier to visit, and most if not all restaurants will be open. It is probably the best time to visit some of the towns and villages that get really busy in the summer such as Sarlat.

WINTER

Winter is quite mild in south-west France, however there can be an occasional short period of cold weather. Down to minus 10 degrees sometimes in the early hours of the morning. Late winter can bring frequent rain. The weather even during the winter tends to be bright and sunny. During December - February it can be very cold (-5 to -10 at night is not uncommon). Most of the major attractions near the house will still remain open during this period however many tourist cafes and restaurants will close during this period. Ski Slopes are only two and a half hours drive from the house and there is still plenty to do and see in the local area.
